
Pierrette Djanwoua is a mental health nurse with extensive experience in mental health care. Originally from Cameroon and a French speaker, she trained as a nurse in the UK, working with the NHS before moving to Canada.
Facing initial challenges in having her qualifications recognized, she worked as a nurse assistant until she obtained her Canadian nursing license. Currently, Pierrette works with Fraser Health, utilizing her expertise in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and counseling.
Her personal experience as a migrant overcoming professional barriers informs her advocacy for culturally appropriate mental health services. As a director on the board of AmEnough Society, Pierrette is committed to providing culturally sensitive mental health support to migrants and refugees, particularly those of African descent, and plays a crucial role in destigmatizing mental health care within the community
